Lead Registered Veterinary Nurse

Stansted Veterinary Specialists is a new, multi-disciplinary, small animal referral clinic scheduled to open in summer 2025, less than a mile from London Stansted Airport. We will be offering specialist led Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopaedics, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging and Cardiology referrals at launch with plans to add other services in the future. We are independent and owned exclusively by the team working within the clinic, putting pets and people at the heart of everything that we do.

The Role

We are looking to recruit a Lead Registered Veterinary Nurse to join us as we start our new venture. You must hold a veterinary nursing qualification registered with the RCVS and have the legal right to work in the UK. Prior leadership and management experience is required for this role. Experience working in referral clinics is beneficial but not a necessary requirement.

Salary: £41,000 per annum plus generous bonus scheme

Hours: Full time - 40.5hrs /week average including nights (initially 1 in 8) and weekends (initially 3 in 8 inclusive of nights). Typical working week consists of 4 x 10hr shifts although there is some variation in this over a full cycle of shifts.

Starting Dates: From July 2025

Benefits Include:
• 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays
• RCVS & VDS fees paid
• Enhanced sickness pay
• Enhanced parental leave
• Employer contribution pension scheme
• CPD funded with time given for attendance
• Employee Assistance Program

Responsibilities Include:
• Line management of the nursing team
• Working with the rest of the clinical team to develop and maintain best practices in clinical standards and staff wellbeing
• Play a leading role in the mentorship and career development of the team
• Assisting with consultations and re-examinations
• Monitoring anaesthetics
• Care of inpatients
• Surgical theatre nursing
• Dispensing medication and stock control
• Processing laboratory samples
• Assisting with the upkeep of clinic equipment
• Liaising with clients for patient updates and some reception duties
• Radiography

While we are starting with a small team of nurses and a relatively intense rota in the early days, we plan to expand the team and reduce the proportion of anti-social hours rapidly as we expand. In the initial phase of clinic development the role will be mainly a clinical one but this is expected to evolve as the team matures and grows. Nonetheless, we expect the role holder to lead by example and integration with the team rather than taking on a purely administrative role. We believe that a strong and empowered nursing team is the key to unlocking efficient and excellent patient care.

How to Apply

For an informal discussion of the role, contact Mayank Seth (Clinical Director). To apply please send a copy of your CV, listing 2 references, together with an accompanying cover letter to jobs@svs.vet. Closing date: March 9th 2025. Interviews to be held shortly after this date.
